24 Week Prenatal and Glucose Tolerance Test

I had my appointment with another doctor today because mine was out for the day. I was a little bummed, but turned out she was pretty nice after all. It was quick, but non-eventful. She had us look and hear little man's heart. It was beautiful as always. Then she went over our last ultrasound results where it tested for defects, etc. Thank God... everything came back within normal limits, so for now all is good :)

I almost forgot to mention that prior to seeing the doc I was asked to take the dreaded glucose tolerance test. It was so sweet and stale. Tasted like a flat orange soda. Sadly, I forgot to take my metformin that morning, so I'm pretty sure that's gonna effect my results. :/

Any who, results should be in later on. In the meantime I'm taking comfort in knowing that baby boy is coming up as healthy as can be :)

Oh My God I'm a Hormonal Mess!

This week I found out my sister is pregnant again. I'm so happy for her, but so sad for me. I can't help it. I'm crying all the time and really it's pathetic! Aghhh.... I need to get my emotions under control. I totally feel like such a horrible sister for feeling so jealous. :(

Natural Supplements for PCOS

I wish I didn't have PCOS. But I do. Normally doctors prescribe meds such as metformin, clomid, and birth control pills to "reclaim" fertility, but I've always felt it was more of a forced situation plus you're stuffing yourself with chemicals and somehow I don't believe that is going to help in the long run. I prefer a more natural way to regain my well-being. I began working out, eating healthier, and about a month ago I began supplementing my health with fish oil and a prenatal multi-vitamin.

The fish oil has completely cleared my skin and the multi-vitamin has provided me with much needed vitamins that I was otherwise not getting enough of. Something I did notice after starting fish oil was that my hair is now getting quite wavy. It's a nice side effect I guess. LOL. But other than that it's been a positive experience.

This month I'm adding Vitex to the mix. Vitex is pretty much supposed to help regulate your menstrual cycle. If you're anything like me and have PCOS you know how hard it is to achieve that. Personally, I have a period about once every six months which obviously is no bueno. Any who, I'm hopeful this little herb can help me.

I purchased my first bottle at GNC for 6 bucks. Pretty cheap for something so important I'd say.

The bottle says to take 1 capsule two or three times daily for eight to twelve weeks. Thereafter, take 1 capsule daily. I decided to go with the lower dosage and start off with two a day for this week. I will tell you that within minutes I began to get cramping. I couldn't believe how quickly it started having an effect. I took the second one with my dinner and again I got the cramps. The way this is going I think I'll be seeing positive results very soon. As for the cramps, they're not so bad.... I take it as a sign that something is working down there... Well, with that said I'm ending this post. I'll post an update if all goes according to plan.

Taking Care of My PCOS the Natural Way

I've mentioned before that I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago. It was a horrible experience because of all the side effects, but it also helped me see that I wasn't alone. However, my doctors were not that knowledgeable in the subject and the first thing they did was prescribe Metformin and Provera. I hated taking meds. I mean they helped bring back my period and luckily I didn't get a lot of the side effects other women have, but I never really felt that my periods were natural. Forgive me, but I felt like I was putting more chemicals inside my body than were necessary. After a few months I stopped. Sadly, I didn't really do anything else.

That was until this year when I completely changed my ways. I began exercising and promised myself that I wouldn't stop. I've been doing great. I've actually spent a lot of time researching PCOS and really getting to know my body. I can now tell when something is going to throw my system off and when I'm all good. You see, with PCOS you really have to pay attention to every little detail. Your body tells you what works and what doesn't. You have to learn to listen to it. Any who, I know that I need a multi-vitamin, so I researched a good natural whole food one. I came up with Rainbow Light Prenatal Petite. I chose that one because the pills are quite small and leave no after-taste. I picked the prenatal over the regular one because it's always been recommended to me by my doctors to take prenatals if trying to get pregnant. And since I am, it was the perfect choice. I got mine from Whole Foods.

While I was at Whole Foods I also got a bottle of Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Fish Oil. I've been meaning to get it for a while. They say that fish oil is really good for women who suffer from PCOS as it helps improve fertility.

I'm going to begin taking them tomorrow 8/1 to see if I notice any changes. Hopefully it'll be all good :). I'll post an update later on.

30 Day Challenge-Day 11

Your current relationship.

Well, I'm married. Have been for the past 8 years. We'll be 9 in December. We've had our ups and downs, but as time passes we've learned to understand each other better and have really learned how we work as a couple. We don't have any kids, but the subject has been luring around for a couple of years, but because of my PCOS had been postponed. But as of last week we have decided to officially try to get pregnant again. It's going to be a lot of work because of this darn PCOS, but we can't help but be super excited about it. We'll start working on it as soon as this period of mine ceases (which should be any minute now). So excited :) and nervous. . .

Wish us luck!
