PCOS

What is PCOS?

PCOS affects about 10% of women of child bearing age. Some girls as young as 11 have been affected by it. It isn't considered a disease... it is a "syndrome," but it sure does feel like a disease. Some even refer to it as the "ugly syndrome." They do so because it can completely change your appearance by many of it's horrible symptoms.

Some symptoms are:

  • Hair growth on the face, chest, back, or knuckles.
  • Irregular/Absent Menstruation.
  • Dark patches on the skin
  • Skin Tags
  • Don't ovulate
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Difficulty Losing Weight
  • Obesity (Mainly around abdomen)
  • Infertility
  • and many others
Left untreated PCOS can lead to:
  • Type II Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Miscarriage
  • Cancer
  • and many others
The Cure:
There is none. The only way to truly control PCOS is by completely changing your eating and exercising habits. You won't ever be able to eat whatever you like without having any consequences. You must work out extra hard to lose a single pound. Doctors often prescribe Metformin to decreases the level of androgens produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands. It also helps the body use insulin and may reduce the risk of diabetes and induce your period.

I'm often asked what I take to control my PCOS, so here's a list.

DAILY

  • Metformin XR-750mg 2xday
  • Fish Oil- 1xday
  • Prenatal Vitamin- 1xday
  • B12 (liquid)- 1xday
NOT DAILY, BUT THROUGHOUT
  • Spearmint Tea
  • Woman's Raspberry Leaf Tea by Yoggi
  • Baby Aspirin
  • Zen Tea by Tazo
